Michelle DiStefano provided an overview of her organization and then opened the floor to questions. Here is a summary of her remarks and answers to questions.
About us: We are a live-in only non-medical home care that has been in business for over 25 years. Our service is for people who want to remain in their home. Our service is an alternative to assisted living or long term care and is much more affordable than traditional 24/7 hourly home care. Our service pairs well with a Visiting Nurse Service or Hospice for patients returning home.
Service area: We service ALL of VT, NH, ME, MA, CT, RI.
Often referrals come from local healthcare hospitals and facilities.
They do not accept Medicare or Medicaid, but accept long-term care insurance and self pay.
What we do: We provide our clients of any age with a certified insured caregiver who stays with them and assists them in their home. Our caregivers provide assistance with personal care, medication reminders (they cannot administer medications, but can remind a client that it is time to take a medication), meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, transportation/errands. We help our clients with post-rehab hospitalization care, hoyer lift care, hospice, alz/dementia care.
Why we are unique: Our clients benefit from having the same live-in caregiver all 7 days of the week. Our caregivers like to stay with the same client for weeks or even months . This potentially reduces the clients exposure to Covid-19 by having the same caregiver at all times and not the “revolving door” of hourly caregivers.
Cost: We have a 2 week minimum and charge $308 per day for this live-in service with auto-withdrawal. $315/day for check or credit card. We accept Long Term Care Insurance.
Caregivers are certified personal care attendants, home health aides and certified nursing assistants. They travel for assignments all over New England.
Caregivers are bonded/insured and covered by workers’ compensation, unemployment insurance and on payroll with taxes matched as required by law.
All Caregivers undergo extensive background checks.
Emergency triage is available 24/7 for clients, families, caregivers and healthcare providers.
Assignments are for a minimum of 2 weeks. Clients must provide a bedroom, and a place for the caregiver to hang/store their clothing and a few belongings. In addition, they must buy groceries to cover meals for the client and caregiver.
Michelle’s role is to do the initial intake and complete a home safety evaluation prior to placing a caregiver to make sure this is a suitable arrangement for the client and the caregiver.
The service may be an alternative to going to an assisted living facility.
