Our speaker today was Andrew Pinard, from the AVA Gallery and Art Center here in Lebanon.

Andrew Pinard
Ava Gallery and Art Center has been in existence since 1973, over 50 years. Andrew titled his talk The Little Engine that Could. He focused on creativity, observation and perspective . Although about 50% of us in the room did not perceive ourselves as being creative, he believes creativity is a quality we all have, and that we often don’t see how were are being creative. He encouraged all of us to look at those moments when we are creative, and to look for opportunities to formally embrace creativity. If you want to more formally explore your creativity, consider attending classes at the Gallery as one way to unleash you own hidden creativity.
Andrew then showed us a picture…Is it a horse or a toad? Depending on how you view the picture, you may see one or the other, but not realize that it can be both. He encouraged us to take the time to view all situations from different perspectives. Being quiet and just observing can also broaden our understanding of various situations. By honing our perception skills, we should have a better understanding of most situations. This can then lead to more diversity and empathy.
He spoke about seeing the world as what may be possible, rather than focusing on what it is now.
AVA has a variety of artist studios for adults and children to explore their creativity. Click on Read more… below for some details on the studios.
The Gallery has a variety of community programing, exhibitions and educational session. Andrew encouraged us to get involve by taking classes or volunteering at AVA.
Andrew also dazzled us with a magical card trick, that helped highlight the importance of creativity, perspective and observation. He received a well deserved round of applause from all of us! Andrew is “that little engine that could!
